internal skill, xuan skill: This term is used to describe both cultivation methods and cultivation techniques. The cultivation method is used to build up and cultivate inner energy (e.g. internal strength or xuan strength). The cultivation technique is used to cultivate different abilities and fighting techniques.
internal strength, xuan strength: the inner energy or qi that could be utilized for attack and defensive purposes. Characters use this energy to attain skills such as superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability and healing as well as the ability to project energy beams and elemental forces from their bodies.
mnemonics: internal skill verses that are meant to be silently chanted during cultivation.
zhaoshi: the codified sequence of fighting techniques or stances that generally accompanies an internal skill or xuan skill.
chang pao: a traditional Chinese men’s gown.
dantian: the energy reservoir in the body; it is the place where characters store the energy they cultivate, gather and absorb.
daren: a title of respect for one’s senior or superior.
wulin: a community of martial artists.
xuan: deep, profound, mysterious

With the exception of martial apprentice, the cultivation ranks above are further subdivided into low-level, intermediate-level, and high-level. Martial apprentice is the only cultivation realm that is subdivided into numerical ranks from one to ten.
